Model Development

METSIM® model development — process simulation for mining

A simulation model is only as good as the engineers behind it. Treo builds METSIM® models for mines and minerals-processing operations worldwide — mass and energy balance models that operations actually use to make decisions, built by metallurgical engineers who understand the plants they're simulating.

The approach

Scoped from your PFD, priced before we start

Every engagement starts with your process flow diagram. From the PFD we scope the model — unit operations, streams, chemistry, and what questions the model must answer — and give you a defined estimate before any work begins. No open-ended consulting clock.

1 · Scoping

We work from your PFD and design data to define the model boundary, the required accuracy, and the decisions it needs to support.

2 · Build

Flowsheet construction in METSIM®: mass and energy balances, reaction chemistry, and dynamic behaviour where the problem demands it.

3 · Validation

The model is reconciled against your plant data or design basis until its behaviour is defensible, not just plausible.

4 · Handover

You get the model, documentation, and a working session with your team. Pair it with training and a run-time licence so the model keeps earning after we leave.

Model audits

Inherited a simulation you don't fully trust?

We audit existing METSIM® models — assumptions, chemistry, structure and drift against current plant performance — and report what's defensible, what isn't, and what it takes to close the gap. We run a free webinar on exactly this — see Events.

FAQ

Model development questions

What does a METSIM model cost?

It depends on flowsheet complexity and what the model must answer — which is why we scope from your PFD and give a defined estimate before starting. Send the PFD; the scoping conversation costs nothing.

How long does a model take to build?

From a few weeks for a focused circuit model to several months for a full-plant dynamic simulation. The PFD scoping sets the timeline alongside the estimate.

Can you audit a model someone else built?

Yes — model audits are a standing service, whether the model came from a consultant, an EPCM, or your own team years ago.

Do we own the model afterwards?

Yes. Handover includes the model files and documentation. Your team needs a METSIM® licence to run it — a run-time licence is often enough.

Do you work internationally?

Yes — we deliver model development worldwide, remotely and on-site.
